The Division of Translational Cancer Research is starting up an exciting research project on anti-stromal therapy in pancreatic cancer in the group of Cancer and Matrix Remodelling. In this project we will examine the effect of anti-stromal therapy in different models of pancreatic cancer. More specifically, we believe that de-activation of cancer-associated fibroblasts will decrease tumour stiffness and improved tumour perfusion and drug uptake. Our group use advanced microscopy to understand metastatic progression and tissue remodelling i.e. using 2-photon microscopy, multispectral optoacoustic tomography and ultrasound. The PhD student will study how the physical and chemical properties of the tumour microenvironment affect cancer progression and how this can be perturbed to support chemotherapy treatment. The PhD student will work in a multidisciplinary, integrative approach to perform high quality translational research with collaborative partners world-wide.
