Lunds universitet, MAX IV, BO

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has 40 000 students and more than 8 000 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.

We are looking for a new member to join the Sample Environment and Detector Support (SEDS) team, operated by the Beamline Office at MAX IV Laboratory. Beamlines at MAX IV require extensive support for the installation of state-of-the-art detector technologies, and these complex detectors have to be procured, installed, commissioned, and maintained. We expect the successful candidate to take a leading role for hardware related support of different detector systems at the beamlines, set up structures and routines to ensure that we have the in-house knowledge to support, maintain and procure stat-of-the-art detector system. The work should be conducted in close collaboration with relevant expertise within the Controls & IT group (KITS) and the beamline staff to ensure that optimal solutions are implemented.

  • Plan and partake in the installation & commissioning of the detectors, in collaboration with beamline teams and KITS.
  • Design and implement standards for detector commissioning and testing.
  • Take part in the detailed design and engineering of the detectors, in collaboration with suppliers and the MAX IV Engineering group.
  • Implement hardware triggering between detectors and control systems.
  • Plan and take part in service and maintenance for the MAX IV detectors.
  • Take part in detector procurements and project supervision.

Required qualifications are:

  • Engineering degree, or a PhD in a subject relevant to the position.

  • Experience in managing complex instrumentation projects in all stages: i.e. planning, design, construction, procurement, commissioning, operation & maintenance
  • Working knowledge of 3D-CAD/CAM software.
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently, being service minded, take initiatives as well as having the ability to cooperate with different teams and functions
  • Excellent command of English, well-developed communication skills and team working skills

 Additional desirable qualifications:

  • Experience in instrumentation for X-ray imaging, X-ray spectroscopy, or X-ray diffraction research.
  • Experience in procurement processes and good negotiation skills

Probationary period may apply.
