For many years, the Division of Respiratory Medicine and Allergology has been conducting successful translational, clinical and epidemiological research specialising in chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Employment

Indefinite term employment as a senior lecturer in the subject of clinical respiratory medicine and allergology. The position is located until further notice at the Department of Clinical Sciences in Lund, Division of Respiratory Medicine and Allergology, and is combined with employment as a specialist physician/consultant at Skåne University Hospital.

Work duties

The work duties mainly involve individual research but also teaching and clinical activities as well as participation in leadership assignments at the Faculty of Medicine.

The holder of the position will be responsible for and coordinate teaching in Lund in the subject of respiratory medicine in the first and second cycles of study, above all on the medical degree programme.

The work duties will also include the position of head of the Division of Respiratory Medicine and Allergology at the Department of Clinical Sciences in Lund. The position as head of division entails responsibility delegated by the head of department for staff employed by the University, finance, work environment and fire safety. For teaching and research staff employed by Region Skåne, the head of division is expected to coordinate work environment management with Region Skåne representatives.

The holder of the position will also be expected to carry out other work duties which are normally associated with employment as a senior lecturer, such as administrative tasks, internal and external elected office positions, and representing the subject nationally and internationally.

Independent clinical work is included in the framework of the specialist physician/consultant role.

Qualifications

Pursuant to chapter 4 section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, a person is qualified for employment as a senior lecturer if they have demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a PhD or have the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve.

The applicant is to have undergone at least five weeks training in teaching and learning in higher education or acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, if special circumstances apply (see Lund University’s Appointment Rules).

Pursuant to the requirements set by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare to register as a physician in Sweden, applicants must have the necessary knowledge of Swedish, Danish or Norwegian to practise the profession.

The applicant is to have expertise as a specialist physician/consultant in the field of respiratory medicine, allergology with the associated relevant basic specialisation, and/or oncology with clear clinical and research specialisation in lung cancer.

Assessment criteria

The applicant is to have demonstrated research and teaching expertise of significance for the subject. In the assessment, particular emphasis will be placed on research expertise in the form of the ability to supervise doctoral students and the ability to attract national and/or international grants. Importance will also be given to ongoing national and international research collaboration. Teaching expertise is to be demonstrated in both teaching and supervision in the first, second and third cycles of study.

In addition, great importance will be attached to the proven ability for academic leadership and collaboration. Experience from previous leadership positions and administrative competence are additional qualifications. Importance will also be ascribed to expertise in participating in organisational development and external engagement, as well as the ability to interact with wider society.

Documented clinical independence and experience of leading clinical work is to be considered an additional qualification.
