Two Doctoral Student positions in Environmental Science - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

CEC is seeking two highly motivated Doctoral Students within DrivenByPollinators, a five-year ERC project assessing the environmental consequences of the insect population declines. Using complementary empirical methods, we aim to quantify how pollinators and herbivores mediate effects of landscape-scale land-use intensity on grassland plant communities and ecosystem functioning. The doctoral students will have a leading role in the field-based/experimental parts of the project. Besides these positions, the project will also employ a PostDoctoral fellow and taxonomic experts.

Qualifications

• Candidates must hold a university degree at master degree level (MSc.) or equivalent, in environmental sciences, ecology, biology, or other relevant areas within natural sciences
• Ability to work independently and to formulate as well as analyze scientific questions
• Excellent knowledge in the field of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning
• Experience with field-based and/or experimental (mesocosm) studies
• Experience working with quantitative ecological methods, in R or similar
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Experience with scientific writing
• Excellent organisational and time-keeping skills
• Driving license (car)

Merits

• Experience in studying grassland plant communities, in generating and analysing multipartite interaction networks
• Practical experience in quantifying plant functional traits
• Skills in GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS or similar)
• Experience in communicating with the farming community
• Good verbal communication skills in Swedish

Eligibility

Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who
- have completed a second-cycle degree
- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or
- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.

Type of employment
