Job description

The aim of the project is to understand how intrinsically disordered proteins interact with nanoplatelets of clay and, thereby, to obtain a molecular understanding, of the underlying physics of the system and how it is affected by the physico-chemical properties. The PhD-student will use a combined experimental and theoretical approach, where the former corresponds to scattering (neutron and small angle x-rays) and IR-spectroscopy, and the latter to atomistic and coarse-grained modelling. The project also includes programming new analysis routines and developing coarse-grained and atomistic models.

Qualifications

General mandatory requirements to be accepted for PhD education as well as the following:

  • Courses in physical chemistry, statistical thermodynamics, and surface- and colloid chemistry,
  • Computer simulations on different level of details.

In addition to the mandatory requirements, documented experiences in the the following fields will be considered as strong merits:

  • Experience of above mentionded experimental techniques and measurements on international neutron- and X-ray facilities.

Documents to include with the application: A cover letter (1/2-1 page) expressing a motivation for why you wish to perform a PhD education in theoretical chemistry at Lund University, and how the present research project matches your own research interests and scientific background.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships.
