Work duties:

We are looking for an associate senior lecturers at the start of their career. The work duties consist of research and teaching in sociology of law on the undergraduate and Master’s level. The position is comprised of 50 per cent research and 50 per cent tuition and any administrative tasks.

The work duties include

- research in the sociology of law of a high international standard

- teaching of a high standard at all levels of education

- active contribution to a positive development of the department’s research environment - contribution to the development of study programmes and Courses

- active drafting of applications for external research funding

Qualifications:

A person who has obtained a PhD or an equivalent degree in sociology of law from abroad, or has acquired the equivalent research expertise in other ways, shall be considered eligible for the position of associate senior lecturer. Priority will be given to applicants who have obtained a PhD or acquired the equivalent qualifications no more than five years prior to the application deadline.

Person specification:

The applicant is to have a PhD in sociology of law or the equivalent research expertise. Preference will be given to applicants who can teach in both Swedish and English. Applicants must be able to present documentation of their research expertise. Importance will be attached to the applicant’s ability to acquire external funding. The applicant must be able to work independently with both teaching and research in a responsible and structured way. International research and teaching experience will be considered an additional qualification. Administrative experience will be considered an advantage. Good interpersonal skills are required.

Assessment criteria:

This is a career development position, which is why applicants who have completed their doctoral degree within the five years preceding the call will be prioritised. In the assessment, special attention will be paid to the applicant’s ability and development potential with regard to their teaching and research expertise, and, in addition, their ability to develop research within the subject area and to obtain external funding. Research expertise includes international publication, independent research, and participation in international cooperation, as well as the development following their PhD. Major emphasis is placed on the applicant’s ability to cooperate. Some emphasis is placed on their administrative skills.

Promotion:

An associate senior lecturer may, on application, be promoted to permanent employment as a senior lecturer. The application must be submitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences no later than 3 years and 6 months after the date of appointment. A review will be conducted midway through the appointment. The applicant’s eligibility and suitability for such employment will be assessed through a review of the progress they have made during their appointment with regard to research and teaching, focusing on the following criteria:

• well documented research competence that is of significance to the subject and duties of the post. This includes a good documented national and international standing as a researcher. Particular importance will be attached to a documented ability to publish internationally.

• well documented teaching competence. Particular importance will be attached to documented skills in conducting teaching and supervision at different levels and to development of quality and breadth of teaching competence over time. The pedagogical competence must be documented in a teaching portfolio.

• progress in academic leadership through an enhanced ability to develop, lead and implement education and research and/or demonstrated leadership/commitment to duties for the department as a whole.

• documented ability to write applications for external research funding.

• good ability to interact with society and inform others about research and development work.

• teacher training to the extent required for appointment as senior lecturer.

• other personal qualities of importance to carry out the duties of the post well.

• where appropriate, sufficient proficiency in Swedish to be able to teach in Swedish
