We are now looking to appoint at least one associate senior lecturer who is to be a part of and reinforce our teaching and research in the areas of marketing, retail and consumption, preferably with a specialisation in sustainable development and/or digitisation. Documented experience of teaching and course directorship as well as research within these areas is desirable. An appointment as associate senior lecturer is a career-development position that is 50 per cent research and 50 per cent teaching. The associate senior lecturer is expected to develop their autonomy as a researcher while also working well in a research team. An associate senior lecturer is to have a good ability to develop and carry out both teaching and research of high quality.

Work duties
The work duties include:

  • teaching at different levels. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, assessment, thesis supervision and any specialisation responsibility and
  • developing the department’s interdisciplinary research and research environment within the aforementioned areas and
  • actively applying for external research funding and contributing to internationally renowned publications.

Five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education is offered within the framework of the position.

Qualifications
For appointment as an associate senior lecturer, the individual must have:

  • been awarded a PhD in an area relevant to the subject, see above, or have acquired equivalent expertise and
  • fulfil the requirements for teaching expertise, special consideration is given to teaching qualifications, experience of course development and the ability to link research to the education.

Primarily applicants who have been awarded a PhD in an area relevant to the position such as service studies, business management, ethnology, cultural geography, sociology, psychology with knowledge of the areas of retail and/or consumption, or applicants who have acquired equivalent expertise in the five years prior to the application deadline will be considered. The associate senior lecturer can apply for promotion to senior lecturer in accordance with Chapter 4 Section 12c of the Higher Education Ordinance.

Assessment criteria
For an appointment as associate senior lecturer, attention is given to research expertise and a good ability to initiate, plan, develop and carry out research. The applicant’s documented teaching experience and skill are considered to be equally important. A demonstrated ability to participate in research applications is desirable. We welcome applicants with experience of both teaching and research in interdisciplinary environments. Special consideration will be given to experience of both research and teaching with a specialisation in the services sector. 

Documented experience of teaching in Swedish, or another Scandinavian language, and English, in both speech and writing, is desirable.  

The Department of Service Management and Service Studies is a relatively young department (20 years) that conducts interdisciplinary teaching and research. Both collegial collaboration and individual contribution are of great significance. Therefore, particular consideration is given to a good ability to cooperate and to take initiative as well as how the applicant, through their experience and expertise, is judged to be able to complement and contribute to the different tasks at the department.

The recruitment process will include interviews, possible trial lectures and referee checking. The applicant is therefore to provide several referees who can describe the applicant’s professional expertise and personal qualities of significance to the position.

Promotion to senior lecturer in service studies
An associate senior lecturer can, upon application, be promoted to indefinite employment as a senior lecturer. Applications are to be submitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences no later than 3 years and 6 months after the date of appointment. The applicant’s eligibility and suitability for such a position will be assessed through a review of the progress they have made during their appointment with regard to research and teaching, with a focus on the following criteria:

  • Well-documented research expertise. This includes a proven high standard as a researcher. Special emphasis will be placed on publications and the ability to formulate research applications for external funding.
  • Well-documented teaching expertise. Special emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s proven ability to conduct teaching and supervision at different levels, and how the quality and breadth of their teaching expertise have developed over time. Training in teaching and learning in higher education to the extent required for appointment as senior lecturer is required.
  • Progress in academic leadership through a demonstrated ability to develop, manage and conduct teaching and research and/or demonstrated involvement/leadership in department-wide duties. 
  • A good ability to interact with wider society and to inform about their research and other development work.
  • Swedish proficiency at the level required to perform regular tasks in research, teaching and administration.
  • Equal consideration will be given to the applicant’s teaching and research expertise in the assessment for promotion to senior lecturer.
