The research group

The position as PhD student is linked to the interdisciplinary research network AIR LUND (www.lupop.lu.se/airlund) with funding from VR, Vinnova and Hjärt-Lungfonden. The project uses artificial intelligence and machine learning methods together with extensive data generated in health care to prevent, diagnose and predict serious disease events. The network includes researchers from four different faculties at Lund University and from Halmstad University.

We are hereby seeking a PhD student for work in the field of  machine learning with applications in emergency care. The employment  is limited to 4 years full time with the desired date of admission on September 1, 2020 or by agreement.

Work duties and areas of expertise 

As a doctoral student, you have the usual duties for a position linked to postgraduate education. More specifically, the planned research is about how machine learning methods can be used to develop decision support tools for more efficient management of patients in emergency care. Data collection, management of large amounts of data, application of machine learning methods and statistical analysis will be important work tasks. Methodological development. Study visits for educational purposes. Scientific discussions about the significance of the results with colleagues both inside and outside the research group. Scientific writing. Presentation of scientific results at seminars and conferences, both nationally and internationally. Some teaching may be relevant. Other existing tasks within the research group may also be relevant.

Qualifications
Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.

Meritorious

Meritorious for the employment:

  • Knowledge and experience of health care, medical issues, and conducting population studies.
  • Interest, knowledge and aptitude for programming and quantitative data processing. 
  • Good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing.
  • Previous experience working with population and health data registers.

Type of employment
Limit of tenure, four years according to HF 5 kap 7§.
