Lunds universitet

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Department of Clinical Sciences Lund is one of six departments at the Faculty of Medicine. Clinical Sciences Lund cooperates closely with Skåne University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine in order to optimize the conditions for preclinical and clinical translational research, research strategies and development, as well as education on both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Research group

Our lab is looking for a post-doctoral candidate with a recently obtained PhD in a cell biology or a related field. The candidate will conduct research investigating the role of the mechanical extracellular matrix (ECM) on epithelial homeostasis and collective motility. Specifically, using an in vitro 2D and a new 3D epithelial model, with state-of-the-art microscopy, the candidate will explore how integrin activation and regulation via the ECM drives changes in cell migration, proliferation and transcription.

Within the group we aim to maintain a good working environment based on mutual respect and consideration. We constantly strive to improve the conditions for work, development and participation for all employees.

We are hereby adverstising for the position of a post doctoral fellow. The position is full time for two years according to central agreement for temporary position as post-doctoral fellow. Desired start date is September 15 th 2020 or according to agreement.

Work assignments

This position is in the laboratory of cell and molecular mechanobiology (LCMM) in IKVL. Our primary focus is in using an inter-disciplinary and microscopy-based approach on cellular mechanotransduction and cell migration. We are located in BMC D14 and currently have 2 PhD students, 2 research scientists and one post-doc.

The candidate will perform the following duties in the lab:

  1. Develop a novel 2D and 3D cell culure system with relevant fluorescence probes that allow for precise high-resolution imaging of collective cell dynamics.
  2. Work with other members in the lab to develop new materials and engineering-based approaches to modulate the ECM environment, collect microscopy data and analyze the data.

The candidate will be required to participate in lab meetings, house seminars as well as present data in these meetings and seminars. In addition, the candidate will be required to participate and contribute in other projects of the lab as well as contribute to the general functioning of the lab.

Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Other assessments will be done according to the following requirements for the position:

  • The candidate must have recently obtained a PhD degree in the field of biological sciences including cell and molecular biology, cancer biology, or cell biophysics or related area. The candidate should have an adequate scientific publishing record.
  • The candidate should have experience with the following techniques:
  • Cell culture of epithelial cell lines and primary cultures including specifically MDCK cells.
  • The candidate should have expertise and lot of experience in fluorescence microscopy including laser scanning confocal microscopy, imaging of epithelial cells in vitro, imaging of cell cytoskeleton and its dynamics and experience working on either cell-ECM adhesions or cell-cell adhesion.
  • Experience working on cellular mechanotransduction or mechanobiology is also extremely beneficial.
