Research project in developmental psychology
The Department of Psychology is announcing a doctoral position within a 10-year longitudinal, prospective research project in Deliberate self-harm, emotion regulation and interpersonal relations in youth (SoL). The overall purpose of the project is to investigate psychological adaptation and quality of life in young adults and how these are affected by factors 10 years earlier (ie in adolescence).

The doctoral student position is partly financed by a grant from the Crafoord Foundation (reference number 20200700).

The doctoral student project
The doctoral project Longitudinal trajectories of the co-occurence of disordered eating and self-injury among Swedish youth. A 10-year follow up, which is a part of the SoL project, has both cross-sectional and longitudinal parts:

  1. Cross-sectionally, we aim to examine the prevalence and co-occurrence of disordered eating (DE) and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in young adulthood and how these behaviours, separately and in combination, relate to different aspects of mental health in young adulthood.
  2. Longitudinally, we aim to study the trajectories of DE and NSSI from adolescence to young adulthood and identify the risk and protective factors in youth that predict these behaviors (separately and in combination) in young adulthood. The hypotheses will be tested in a large community sample of youths who completed a survey at three time points (2006, 2007, and 2017). The doctoral student will have the opportunity to expand his/her part of the project with a new separate data collection as well as new research questions with regards to disordered eating among youth.

In his/her part of the project, the doctoral student will work independently with great personal responsibility for data management and data analysis. To the application, the applicant should attach a research plan that contains their own initial ideas about what would be interesting to investigate in terms of disordered eating and non-suicidal self-injury as well as related factors, from a developmental psychological perspective.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships.
