Subject description
One of the research areas within the Division of Nuclear Physics at the Department of Physics, concerns research with exotic radioactive ion beams far from stability, as well as development of multidetector systems for this and related research fields. A new measurement campaign is scheduled from 2021 at the R3B-experiment at the international accelerator facility GSI (FAIR Phase-0) at Darmstadt, Germany, where the group is active. The applicant is expected to take an important role in the preparation and running of these experiments, as well as in the following data analysis. The work is carried out in an international collaboration and includes both practical experimental work and theoretical interpretation of the results.
The applicant is specifically expected to take part in the work with the installation, upgrade and use of the calorimeter, CALIFA, of the R3B experiment, where the Lund group has a central role.
The detector is a multidetector system based on ca 1000 scintillation detectors. The candidate needs to have experience from detector systems of this kind, including knowledge from numerical simulations.
The work is carried out in close collaboration with PhD students and other researchers in Lund and in Europe. The position thus requires regular travel abroad.
Further academic qualifications can be provided by analysing scientific data from other related experiments e.g. at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. The work also includes the opportunity to propose new experiments based on the interest of the candidate. Opportunities also exist to engage in teaching activities to add to personal pedagogic merits.
Work duties
