Subject description

The postgraduate subject is industrial electrical engineering with special focus on mathematical modelling and measurement systems for electric road systems.

The division of Industrial Electrical Engineering and Automation has a fundamental role in a national evaluation project of electric road systems (Evolution Road). An essential part of this work is related extensive measurements and analysis of electric characteristics related to the energy transfer of the electric road. The work involves collection of data, reconciliation of data, analysis of data and publication of selected aggregated data in both popular science journals and scientific journals.

Industrial electrical engineering is focused on technology and systems for electrical and electromechanical energy conversion. The subject is by nature interdisciplinary with strong elements of electromagnetism, power electronics and electronics, materials technology, electrical machine design, control technology, as well as real-time systems, industrial automation, and electrical measurement technology.

The subject is linked to industrial automation where research problems at a more general system level are included. Research in industrial electrical engineering is often inspired by industrial problems.

Work duties

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

IEA is looking for a postdoc for the research group of industrial electrical engineering. The work includes research but also supervision of doctoral students and teaching (maximum 20%).

The role includes:

  • Help with collection of data, qualification of data, analysis of data from the ongoing electric road demonstration in Lund and publication of selected aggregated data in both popular science journals and scientific journals.
  • Interaction with researchers in adjacent research projects.
  • Participation in the formulation and applying of new research projects.

Qualification requirements

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

  • A solid and documented scientific background related to modelling of conductive electric road systems and their thermal properties.
  • Demonstrated experience of independent experimental laboratory work.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in both Swedish and English.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

This is a career development position that is primarily focused on research. The employment is intended as a first step in a career and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Special emphasis is placed on research knowledge in the subject.

For appointments to postdoctoral fellows, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Teaching ability.

Additional assessment criteria:

  • As the research will be partly conducted within the framework of the Swedish Electromobility Centre, experience of the Swedish vehicle industry and its development processes, together with a wide network within this industry is a considerable advantage.
  • Scientific communication skills.
  • Some experience of advanced data analysis, CAD-design and programming.

Consideration will also be given to good co-operation, drive and independence, and how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen the ongoing research within the department, and how the individual can contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
