The Division of Risk Management and Societal Safety, at the Department of Building and Environmental Technology, carries out research and education in the area of risk and crisis management with a societal focus. We are appointing a researcher who can be part of two projects that are financed and that involves the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, respectively.
Subject description
The subject includes the study of how actors negotiate, collaborate and cooperate to solve societal adaptation challenges in different real-world contexts but also why conflicts arise in this work. Special focus is placed on the role of power in the adaptation process, in different contexts at local, regional, national and international level. Furthermore, there is a specific emphasis on understanding the processes wherein societal structures influence and shape adaptation practices and assign normative values to evaluate adaptation. An overarching objective of the research is to bridge the gap between policy and practice through understanding of politics of adaptation from a gendered perspective. Therefore, a very important aspect of research in the area is that it is based on real world risk and disaster management problems.
