At the Faculty of Social Sciences, research on working life and work organisation is conducted within several departments - in particular, the Departments of Sociology and Psychology. Research on working life and work organisation is also an important interdisciplinary interface with other faculties such as Humanities, Medicine, Engineering and the School of Economics. The Faculty of Social Sciences plans to further strengthen and develop research and education in this area. The position of professor will be based at the Department of Sociology.

The research environment is characterised by a clear and well thought-out methodological curiosity where different methods and methodological considerations are critically explored and studied. Together with the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department of Sociology now hopes to further strengthen its research environment with the appointment of a Professor of Working Life and Work Organisation with a special focus on sustainable working life. We are looking for a person with a good analytical eye for empirical evidence as well as deep and broad knowledge in the field of working life and work organisation.

Duties

The position includes research, teaching and supervision in the field of working life and work organisation at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate levels, as well as administration. Of particular importance is to further develop the research conducted in this field by the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Department of Sociology and to actively seek external research funding opportunities and participate in the international debate.

As Professor of Working Life and Work Organisation, you are also expected to actively participate in the work with our new interdisciplinary Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources (https://www.lu.se/lubas/i-uoh-lu-SGHUR), which is replacing an earlier degree programme in Human Resources and Working Life, and also in the development of a new Master's Degree in the same subject. Providing research-based teaching is another important part of this work.

The position also involves working with administration and, where applicable, to participate in various preparatory bodies relating to research, postgraduate degree programmes and management assignments within the Department of Sociology but also, at other levels within Lund University. As Professor of Working Life and Work Organisation, you will be expected to actively participate in the daily work of the Department.

Eligibility/qualifications

Eligible candidates must be able to demonstrate a level of research and teaching expertise within the field of Working Life and Work Organisation that meets the requirements for the position of Professor (in accordance with Article 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance).

Applicants must be able to provide documented evidence of outstanding and internationally renowned academic credentials including research, research project management and teaching in the field of working life and work organisation. A proven track record of interdisciplinary research in this area is a further merit. Scientific expertise must be demonstrated through independent research efforts that significantly exceed the competence required for an Associate Professor (Docent).

Equal consideration will be given to the assessment of pedagogical and scientific skills. Eligible candidates must have documented evidence of teaching experience at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate levels. In addition, they shall have supervised (as principal supervisor) at least one doctoral student to degree completion. Eligible candidates shall have undergone a minimum of five weeks of teacher training at the university level or acquired the same level of competence by other means. Applicants not fulfilling the minimum teacher training criterion will be expected to complete their training within one year from commencement of employment.

At Lund University, being suitable for your role as a teacher and possessing the skills necessary to perform that role is considered a general eligibility requirement. Good interpersonal skills are also essential.

Assessment criteria

We are looking for a person with excellent skills in analysing empirical material and extensive knowledge about theory formation in the field. The successful applicant must have established himself/herself as an independent researcher at an international level, for example, by:

(1) publishing in globally recognised journals and with renowned publishers in line with prevailing research traditions, (2) winning research funding in competition with other researchers, (3) having a documented ability to plan and lead scientific projects and (4) a proven track record of national and international research collaborations.

A good and documented ability to supervise doctoral students to degree completion is also of great importance.

The successful applicant must also demonstrate good pedagogical skills including a very good ability to conduct, develop and lead different levels of pedagogical activities using a variety of teaching methods in the field of working life and work organisation.

Furthermore, the applicant must be able to demonstrate a good ability to effectively collaborate with the surrounding society as well as communicate, lead and develop a variety of activities.

Teaching will take place in Swedish and English.

Non-Swedish speaking applicants will be expected to obtain the level of Swedish needed (written and spoken) to be able to teach and actively participate in administrative and other activities conducted in Swedish within a period of two years.
