Subject description
The employment mainly involves research related to proteomic analyses of post translational modifications (PTM). The project is a collaboration between Magnus Jakobssons research group at the Department of Immunotechnology, Lund University, and Börje Sellergrens research group at the Department of Biomedical sciences, Malmö university.

The project strives to develop and characterize new affinity agents for enrichment of proteins and peptides carrying PTMs for analysis by mass spectromery. Börje Sellergren has expertize regarding the development of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for enrichment of PTM containing peptides. Magnus Jakobssons group has complementary expertize regarding analysis of modified peptides by quantitative mass spectrometry. The project is anticipated to be carried out to a degree of 50 % at Lund university and 50 % at Malmö university.

Research concerning mass spectrometry at the deaprtment of Immunotehcnology is linked to the infrastructure Proteoforms@LU. Proteoforms@LU contributes advanced liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) equipment, as well as experience concerning preparation of samples for analysis. Used protocols often include different affinity based methods, particularly enrichment of PTM containing peptides. Proteoforms&LU works widely with PTMs but focuses on methylation and phosphorylation. A main focus of the infrastructure is further development of automated sample preparation for reprodcible and large scale proteomics studies.

Work duties

 The work duties encompass e.g.:

  • Development of new MIPs for affinity enrichment of PTMs for analysis by mass spectrometry.
  • Sample preparation using various protocols and subsequent LC-MS analysis.
  • Analysis of data correpsonding to the above.
  • Possibility to supervise degree students and PhD students.
  • Possibility to apply for external resarch funding.
  • Administration relatd to the tasks above.

Qualification requirements

  • A PhD degree in a relevant subject such as biochemistry, cell biology, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Experience in development of PTM MIPs.
  • Experience in enrichment and analysis pf PTMs.
  • Experience with automated sample preparation for mass spectrometry.

 Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • Programming and statistical analysis with Python, R, or similar.

Regard will be taken to cooperative ability, drive and independence as well as how the applicant through his, or her, experience is judged to complement and strengthen ongoing research at the department and contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
The position as researcher involves employment to the degree of 50 % at Lund university and 50 % at Malmo university.
