 The department of Building and Environmental Technology at Lund University, Faculty of Engineering invites applications for a position as Professor in Building Physics.

Building Physics.

Subject description
The subject covers all aspects of building physics with an understanding of the connection between theoretical and applied processes and problem-solving in heat balances, energy transport, air and moisture transport through building compo­nents, critical humidity levels in building envelope, boundary conditions and meas­urement technology in the field of building physics.

The research includes leading the development of new building components and buildings as well as renovation of existing buildings so that they obtain a good in­door environment while being sustainable and robust to the effects of climate change, giving little climate impact and minimizing the need for energy with both passive and active methods.

Models and collaborations need to be developed to connect buildings and sur­rounding technical systems, especially concerning climate change, to broaden the subject area.

Work duties
Work duties include:

  • Research in the subject area. Which also means active participation in the management and development of the division's research activities.
  • Teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students.
  • Actively work to seek external research funding.
  • Collaboration with industry and broader society.
  • Long-term development of laboratory activities through active collabora­tion with other research groups, industries, organizations and those respon­sible for undergraduate education.
  • Develop collaboration with other divisions within the department and other research groups within LTH to offer broader solutions to problems and challenges in the public construction sector.
  • Actively participate in Moisture Research Centre's activities.
  • Continue our unique collaboration with the Division of Building Services to develop our joint courses in undergraduate education and implement new research findings in these.
  • Active work in various national and international contexts that provide a continuous dialogue with the academic world and society in general.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements
Appointment as a Professor requires that the applicant has:

  • Demonstrated research expertise.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed at least five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means, unless there are valid reasons.

Assessment criteria
When assessing the applicants, special importance will be given to research and teaching expertise within the subject equally.

The assessment criteria specify the aspects to be taken into account and the level to be achieved for the assessment criteria to be deemed fulfilled. The following as­sessment criteria must be fulfilled for appointment to professor:

  • A very good national and international standing as a researcher. The re­quirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject.
  • A very high level of teaching skills, including a very good ability to con­duct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on differ­ent levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
  • A good ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
  • A good ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
  • A good general ability to lead and develop activities.

Additional requirements

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Experience in leadership.
  • Documented ability to attract external financing.

Other qualifications

  • A developed national and international network in the area.
  • Experience in budget and personnel responsibilities.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independ­ence, and how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen on­going research, first and second cycle education and innovation within the depart­ment, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
