The research group
The research group for genomics, diabetes and endocrinology conducts research in the field of precision medicine and metabolic complexity in type 2 diabetes. The research, with a focus on precision medicine and genetics, is at the forefront of diabetes research; the group is led by Associate Professor Ola Hansson.

Tasks
In this doctoral project, under the supervision of Associate Professor Rashmi Prasad, you will study the underlying genetics, heredity patterns, mutations and early life factors that lead to susceptibility to diabetes and related traits. We will use statistical, genetic, epigenetic and transcriptomic methods for "Next-generation" sequencing and large scale high throughput genetic data from large family cohorts and tissues of interest. Furthermore, the findings will be followed up with various bioinformatics methods. Other methods that will be used include machine learning and mathematical modelling.
The doctoral students' main tasks are to devote themselves to their research studies, which include participation in research projects and postgraduate courses. The tasks can also include teaching and other departmental tasks up to a maximum of 20%.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The selected person must be motivated, creative and eager to learn and try new methodological approaches. It is also important to have the ability to develop an independent way of working, as well as the ability to collaborate. In this, properties such as flexibility and stress resistance are emphasized.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.
The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
