The research group

The research group for genomics, diabetes and endocrinology conducts research in the field of precision medicine and metabolic complexity in type 2 diabetes. The research, with a focus on precision medicine and genetics, is at the forefront of diabetes research; the group is led by Associate Professor Ola Hansson.

The operation is located at the Clinical Research Center in Malmö. Here you can read more about our exciting research.

Within the research group, we safeguard a good work environment with respect and consideration in our relationships with each other, and strive for a workplace that is perceived as developing and stimulating for all employees. We strive constantly to create conditions for job satisfaction, development and participation for all employees. We care about both physical safety and the psycho-social work environment.

Tasks

In this doctoral project, under the supervision of Associate Professor Rashmi Prasad, you will study the underlying genetics, heredity patterns, mutations and early life factors that lead to susceptibility to diabetes and related traits. We will use statistical, genetic, epigenetic and transcriptomic methods for "Next-generation" sequencing and large scale high throughput genetic data from large family cohorts and tissues of interest. Furthermore, the findings will be followed up with various bioinformatics methods. Other methods that will be used include machine learning and mathematical modelling.

The doctoral students' main tasks are to devote themselves to their research studies, which include participation in research projects and postgraduate courses. The tasks can also include teaching and other departmental tasks up to a maximum of 20%.
