The history division within the Department of History offers freestanding courses alongside Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, the latter of which is offered together with the history of ideas and sciences. Our third-cycle education is well-developed, and the National Graduate School of Historical Studies, set up twenty years ago, forms the hub.
Global and international history is a wide research field with several different specialisations that encapsulate historical phenomena, processes and relationships over national and regional borders. This may include, for example, analyses of flows, exchanges and connections, but also resistance, conflict and disintegration, and comparisons across time and space. The field covers a broad chronology from the Middle Ages up to the present day and can include macro and microhistorical perspectives.
International and global history has been a prominent part of the environment at Lund University since the 1970s, with several renowned professors at the forefront. At the moment we also have two Wallenberg Academy Fellows projects with an international focus, an incoming Pro Futura Scientia researcher specialising in global history, and many doctoral students and researchers whose research topics are international and global in scope.
The holder of the position will act as a research leader primarily by running research projects, initiating and supporting applications for external funding, developing seminar activities and attracting national and international researchers to the international and global history research environment in particular and to the Department of History in general. The applicant will contribute to the development of the department’s network of research contacts in the subject both nationally and internationally, develop contacts with wider society, supervise doctoral students and act as a mentor for younger researchers.
The holder of the professorship is expected to lead and develop the teaching of international and global history with different theoretical, temporal and spatial perspectives and at all levels of the Bachelor’s programme in history, the secondary school subject teacher training in history, the Master’s programme in historical studies, as well as freestanding and online courses.
The candidate is expected to have a positive attitude towards taking on advanced management duties in the department.
The position requires the professor to be present and active in the department.
