Description of the workplace
The Food and bioprocess research group at the Department of Food Technology, Engineering and Nutrition represents all aspects of food processes and food production. The research group has several interdisciplinary collaborations in both academia and industry and perform basic research, as well as applied research for commercial purposes.

Work duties
The employment includes participation in research projects with the aim to turn plant-based residues into valuable ingredients and products for the food market.
The primary work duties are to provide support and practical assistance to a research group that needs to produce larger quantities of plant protein concentrates for further studies, in particular for extrusion of high-moisture meat analogues. The tasks include the implementation of protein extraction processes mainly on a semi-pilot scale, but also on a laboratory scale. The unit operations that will be used include extraction tank, decanter, high-speed centrifuge, Stephan mixer, spray dryer and extruder. The tasks further include some characterisation of plant protein concentrates by nutrient composition (dry matter, protein, fat, ash, fibre analysis) and functional properties (gelling, water- and oil holding capacities, emulsification capacity, rheological analysis using RVA and DSC). The work duties also include laboratory assistance in teaching and collaboration with industrial partners.
Qualifications
Required qualifications for the position are:
A degree in Engineering with specialisation in Food Technology, alternatively a master degree in Biotechnology, a master degree in Food Technology and Nutrition, or corresponding merits. Very good oral and written proficiency in English. Good knowledgr and practical experience in operating food processing equipment in semi pilot or pilot scale. Good knowledge and practical experience in basic food analyses.
Additional qualifications for the position are:
Good oral and written proficiency in Swedish. Pedagogical experience. Experience of working with plant-based residues. Good knowledge in scientific writing. Driving licence category B.
We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will be given to drive, independence and good collaborative and communication skills, both within the project group and towards external partners. Great emphasis will also be placed on how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the scientific work and the research group in which the applicant will work within.
Further information
The position is a fixed term position for one year at 100 percent of full time and starting by agreement.
