Description of the workplace
The research group "Integrative Medicine Proteomics" (IMP) develops proteomics techniques to introduce precision medicine strategies in sepsis and to study how circulating antibodies evolve after an infection or after vaccination. The research group works closely with BioMS, a national research infrastructure in biological mass spectrometry, and has access to several modern mass spectrometers such as Oribitraps and TiMS-TOFs. IMP is an interdisciplinary research group with senior researchers, postdocs and doctoral students with expertise in clinical medicine, animal models, cell biology, proteomics and bioinformatics. The research group is located at the Biomedical Center near the Region Skåne University hospital and has access to clinical samples, animal model facilitates and a range of in vitro and in vivo methods.

As a workplace, we safeguard a positive work environment with respect and consideration in our relations with one another.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
The central research question is to develop a robust method to select optimal epitopes from the surface proteome. The work tasks include calculate the relative frequency at which each potential antigen is present from the desired population (e.g. all genome sequenced strains for one bacterial species or a bacterial genus) and to create a tertiary structure compendium of representative antigens using Alphafold2. Data from these three steps will be combined to rank the antigens according to their suitability.  The optimal epitope or epitopes will also be identified. In the latter part of the project, Protein Design will be used to create nano-particle vaccines.
