Description of the workplace

The Division of Combustion Physics has during several decades built up a world leading activity on the field of laser diagnostics of combustion processes. The activities involve development of more fundamental understanding of the techniques to be used as well as applications of optical measurements, e.g. for species concentrations, temperatures, and velocities. Of essential importance for the activity are the techniques that shall be used for studies of turbulent combustion in general and gas turbines in specific. In order to strengthen the activities in this field we announce for a researcher position.

We offer

Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension scheme.

Work duties

The main duty  of the researcher position will be to conduct research. The purpose of the work is to develop and apply different laser-based techniques for studies of turbulent combustion with strong connection to practical stationary combustion and with strong industrial relevance. The main techniques involved are laser-induced fluorescence for species detection and particle image velocimetry for flow velocity. The activities will be fundamental studies of these techniques as well as application together with external parties, e.g. different industrial companies. Parts of the work will be in close collaboration with other scientific disciplines, for example specialists within CFD-modelling. In the work also safety work at the Division of Combustion Physics will be included, as well as to contribute to the supervision of PhD students, contribute to applying for external funding, interaction with industry and society,  as well as certain administration tasks. The researcher is expected to be able to contribute to teaching elements coupled to the research work duties.

The researcher will not carry out research projects of her/his own, and, generally, the researcher will not be given the possibility to apply for external research grants in a role as principal investigator.

The researcher position is not a career-development position and there is no possibility of a future conversion of the researcher position into a teacher’s position (such as a lecturer or senior lecturer position).

Qualifications

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Good knowledge in laser-based combustion diagnostics for measurements of species concentration, and temperature.
  • Experience from research related to gas turbine combustion
  • Ability to plan and execute research projects in an independent way and with external partners
  • Experiences from safety work related to the work description

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Experience of research work in close collaboration with industries and measurement campaigns in industrial environments.
  • Experience of collaboration with other scientific disciplines such as with CFD-specialists.
  • Experience of work with plasma applications.

The research is in many aspects interdisciplinary and therefore a broad competence and experience from relevant areas of physics, spectroscopy and combustion are valuable. Attention will also be paid to good co-operative ability, drive and independence and how the applicant through his experience and competence can help build and strengthen the current research area in the Division.

Further information

Employment is for an indefinite term with a scope of 100 per cent of full time starting in 1/1 2023 or by agreement.

How to apply

Applications shall be written in English and be compiled into a PDF-file containing:

CV including a list of publications, a general description of past research activities and future research interests (no more than three pages), contact information of at least two references, copy of the doctoral degree certificate, and other certificates/grades that you wish to be considered. documentation on safety activities related to the work description
