The PhD student will work within the project UPSCALE, which is a collaboration project between five Nordic/Baltic institutions. The project aims in using biosignatures to upscale crop traits to satellite level. Techniques for phenotyping of different plant traits is the basis of the project, and it includes developing methodology for upscaling these traits from laboratory to field and satellite data. Image processing and efficient computer algorithms will be used for creating knowledge, and support a better climate adapted agriculture. The project will link to activities in SITES.
Tasks
The aim of the work is to reach a doctors degree by broad education and project work. This entails both individual work and collaborative work under a supervisory team. The PhD student will work with a broad toolset, from laboratory and field measurements of plant traits and spectral properties, to image analysis and computer models. Analysis of field measurements, drone data, satellite data, meteorological data, and information about soil and other properties is important for development of crop growth models for determination of phenological stages and harvest of different agricultural crops. Compilation, analysis and documentation of the research work is an important component of the work.
