The Department of Energy Sciences conducts research into phenomena, mechanisms, components, processes, and systems with relevance to the energy sector. The research is based on modeling, numerical simulation, and experimental studies. The Division of heat transfer, where the position is located, focuses on single- and multi-phase flows in which thermal processes, such as classical heat transfer and/or exothermic chemical reactions, play a prominent role. The division is growing, and currently consists of around twenty researchers.
The assistant professor will conduct research in the area of numerical simulation of high-speed- and plasma-assisted combustion with application to gas turbines and jet engines, ramjet engines, and rotating detonation engines. This is motivated by the urgent need to reduce the climate impact from aviation, and power and electricity production. This can be accomplished by improving the performance and increasing the fuel flexibility of existing gas turbines and jet engines, as well as developing improved and more environmentally friendly engines and fuels for aviation and power generation. An additional motivation for the research is to increase our capacity for resilience through utilization of domestic raw materials. This research activity is supported by a five-year competence center funded by the Swedish Energy Agency (CESTAP), three four-year EU H2020 projects (MORE&LESS, MYTHOS and CircularFuels), an EDF project (NEUMANN), a VR project, a project funded by the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research, as well as several more applied industrial projects. The research will be carried out in close collaboration with experimental and other research in these projects.
