Project description

The project aims to deepen the understanding of the immune microenvironemnt in malignant lymphomas. Specific aims include use and development of methods to quantify immune cells in heamatological tissue, develop integrated models, combining biological and clinical data, to explain response to treatment and identify novel immunotherapeutic targets. The project is carried out in collaboration with Skåne University Hospital (SUS) and the Nordic mantle cell lymphoma group.

Work duties

The main duties of doctoral students are to devote themselves to their research studies which includes participating in research projects and third cycle courses. The work duties will also include teaching and other departmental duties (no more than 20%).

The project uses new technology, and the established SpatialOmics@LU infrastructure (www.lth.se/spatialomicslu), to generate unique molecular information about cellular interactions between the tumor and the immune system.

Detailed description of the work duties, such as:

  • Planning and execution of spatially resolved molecular and cellular analyses using different emthods.
  • Develop bioinformatic workflows to answer specific biological questions and identify therapeutic target molecules.
  • Develop integrated models to enhance the basic immunologial understanding and develop risk models for clinical use.
  • Take part in collaborations with clinicans and other researchers to develop new cross-disciplinary studies related to the project

  2. An assessment of ability to work independently and to formulate and tackle research problems.
  3. Written and oral communication skills.
  4. Other experience relevant to the third-cycle studies, e.g. professional experience.

Other assessment criteria

  • Education/knowledge in immunology
  • Practical experience with image analyses
  • Practical experience in R studio
  • Practical experience in Python

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant, through experience and skills, is deemed to have the abilities necessary for successfully completing the third cycle programme.
