The Department of Chemistry at Lund University (KILU) is a joint department for chemistry within the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering (LTH). All research and education at the department takes place at Kemicentrum. The Department of Chemistry provides high-quality education in all areas of chemistry. The education takes place in close collaboration with research and our teachers are part of nationally and internationally recognized research groups. The Department of Chemistry has a unique strength in Sweden with research conducted by internationally and nationally leading research groups, which ranges from completely fundamental to highly applied research. The chemistry department also has the advanced instrumentation required in modern molecular research. The cross-disciplinary research, and the close cooperation with industry, constantly contribute to new innovations and solutions in areas such as technology, medicine, food, energy, and the environment. In total, the department has around 310 employees, of which approximately 170 are PhD students. The number of full-year students participating in the basic education is almost 500. The total annual financial turnover is approximately 350 million SEK.

The Department of Chemistry consists of four research centres: Centre for Molecular Protein Science (CMPS), Centre for Analysis and Synthesis (CAS), Centre for Applied Life Sciences (CALS) and the Centre for Physical and Theoretical Chemistry. Analytical chemistry as an undergraduate and postgraduate subject is found at the Centre for Analysis and Synthesis (CAS), and it is for this unit that the advertised position applies.
