Description of the workplace

Health Economics at Lund University is ranked as the foremost research environment within its field in Scandinavia and 9th in Europe. The Health Economic Research Unit at the Medical Faculty is headed by Professor Ulf Gerdtham  and conducts research primarily within five fields: 1) Economics of public health; 2) Health care organisation and incentives; 3) Efficiency of health care systems; 4) Economic evaluations of health interventions and programmes; 5) Socioeconomic-related inequalities in health and well-being. The research team contributes to both theoretical and empirical research and uses survey- and register-data from regional, national, and international databases, as well as experiments. Work duties

The postdoctoral researcher will study the consequences of Cerebral Palsy on education, labour market outcomes, and family formation in Sweden and Iceland. The project also investigates to what extent the different support structures within the Social insurance system mitigates possible adverse consequences, and the distribution of both consequences and access to societal support. The work tasks will include quantitative analysis and scientific writing. Other tasks within the research group may also be required.

The postdoctoral researcher will work in a team together with researchers at the Health Economic Unit at Lund University and researchers at the University of Iceland.

Eligibility

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. This eligibility requirement needs to be met no later than the time when the employment decision is made, and evidence that this requirement is met needs to have been sent in by this time at the latest. Candidates should have completed their PhD degree no more than three (3) years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

Basis for assessment      
At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is mainly room for merit in research, but also for certain higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks.

For the employment as a postdoctoral research, scientific ability will primarily be taken into account.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

• A PhD (within the last 3 years) in Health Economics, with a background in Economics
• Documented experience in conducting register studies using large data materials
• Good knowledge in applied econometrics with understanding of quasi-experimental methods
• Proficiency in Stata
• Documented oral and written proficiency in English, as well as proficiency in Swedish or Icelandic
• Good ability to be flexible and work independently
• Good ability to collaborate with others and to be a productive part of a team

Meritorious for the position are:

• Experience of working with Swedish and/or Icelandic registers
• Prior experience of working in multidisciplinary research teams
• Prior experience of health economic evaluation of policy

Terms of employment

This is a full-time employment limited to 2 years, with a possible extension for up to one additional year. Preliminary start date is the 1th of April 2023 or according to agreement. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral researcher”) between SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated November 19, 2021.
