Workplace description/subject area 

The subject of Ukrainian is located within the Centre for Languages and Literature, where teaching of the Slavic languages Polish, Ukrainian and Russian is offered. Ukrainian is a subject under development and will initially be offered at beginner’s and intermediate levels. Our aim is to establish Ukrainian as a specialisation on the Bachelor’s programme in translation. Third-cycle studies in Slavic languages may specialise in Ukrainian.

Work duties

Work duties of the position consist of the course development, planning, teaching and examination of courses in Ukrainian at beginner’s levels, along with own research (at least 20% of the position).

Qualification requirements

Awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the position’s subject matter i.e. Ukrainian, and the work duties of the position. Demonstrated teaching expertise. Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education of at least five weeks or equivalent competence that has been acquired in another way. If there are valid reasons, for example that the applicant has lacked opportunities to acquire the requisite knowledge in their former positions, an appointment can still be made. In such cases, the appointee is to complete the required training in teaching and learning in higher education within the first two years of employment, thereby fulfilling the requirement. The ability to teach in English from the first day of employment.

The position includes teaching (70%), research/professional development (20%) and other duties (10%).

The assessment criteria generally apply to the level of research, teaching, administrative and other expertise that is of value in regard to the position’s subject content and work duties as well as other personal abilities that are of value in carrying out the work duties successfully.

Assessment criteria

  • The degree of research, teaching, administrative and other expertise that is of value in view of the work duties and subject matter of the post as well as other personal skills of relevance to perform the duties well.
  • Good national and international standing as a researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject.
  • Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
  • An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
  • An ability to cooperate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
  • A good general ability to lead and develop activities

In the assessment of qualifications, teaching and research expertise receive equal consideration.

Specific qualifications of additional merit

  • Broad experience of teaching courses at university level in the subject of Ukrainian, from beginner’s to advanced level.
  • Experience of research and/or teaching in other language areas relevant to the subject, such as another Slavic language.
  • A good ability to collaborate.
  • Experience of remote teaching and developing digital methods in teaching and examination.
