Work duties

Coastal waters around the world are subject to several environmental stressors, such as eutrophication, temperature increase and deoxygenation. Recently, another stressor has received considerable scientific and societal attention - ocean acidification. Ocean acidification is caused by the increase in carbon dioxide pressure as a consequence of increased carbon emissions to the atmosphere. For coastal seas, the situation is more complex with several other factors such as increased amount of organic matter and larger runoff from land also contribute to lowering the pH. Within this project, we study the impact of different pH-lowering drivers, together with warming and deoxygenation, on the benthic environments through experiments.

  • Research within environmental science, in particular marine micropaleontology and paleoceanography
  • Trace elemental -, tomographic- – and isotope analyses of benthic foraminifera through advanced microanalytical techniques.
  • Field work at sea
  • Laboratory duties with respect to sediment and water samples
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above

Qualification requirements

  • The applicant must be a student actively studying in the Master program in Geology (direction Quaternary geology) at Lund University
  • The applicant shall have extensive, documented experience in species identification of benthic foraminifera from the Baltic Sea and Skagerrak area
  • The applicant shall have extensive experience of working with samples from the Skagerrak and the Baltic Sea, as well as experience of field work at sea and extensive experience performing experiments on live foraminifera.
  • The applicant shall have documented experience of trace elemental analyses of benthic foraminifera through Laser-ablation ICP-MS.
  • The applicant shall have considerable, documented experience of preparatory-, analytical and post analytical work for all stated methods.
  • The applicant shall have very good oral and written proficiency in English.

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will also be given to i.e., good collaborative skills, drive, and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the administrative work within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.
