Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Department of Chemical Engineering is innovative in separation technology and reaction technology. Our work has a clear connection to Agenda 2030 through a research focus on energy and cost-effective processes.
Collaboration with industry and other research groups both inside and out of Sweden is an important component of our strategy.
Our students and employees experience a pleasant and inclusive environment at the Department.

The overall goal of the project is to study the influence of viscosity on mem-branes capacity (flux) when concentrating solutions of biopolymers extracted from renewable raw materials. Questions to be answered in the project:

  • How is the flux affected during ultrafiltration of biopolymers in membrane equipments adapted for viscous solutions?
  • What is the optimal viscosity (concentration) of the solutions from an economic perspective?

Work duties

  • Plan experiments in consultation with the project managers
  • Independently conduct experiments on a pilot-scale in the apparatus hall at Kemicentrum
  • Carefully document the work in the form of a logbook
  • In consultation with project managers, evaluate the results
  • At the end of the work, to present the work in a technical report

Qualifications
The position requires:

  • a civil engineering degree or equivalent
  • basic knowledge about pressure-driven membrane processes such as ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and/or reverse osmosis
  • practical experience of pressure-driven membrane processes
  • an independent person who can design and carry out experiments on her/his own
  • good collaborative ability in order to be able to discuss and evaluate results of the experiments together with other persons involved in the project

Other merits

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the research within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.
