The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Department of Computer Science at LTH, Lund University, is now recruiting a Head of Department. We intend to employ a Senior lecturer who will carry out the time-limited assignment as head of department at about 50 %. Normally, the head of department assignment is for 3 + 3 years and it is the Dean of LTH who appoints the head of department. The department performs teaching, research and collaboration with the wider society on the subject of computer science. The teaching includes basic courses given to a wide range of educational programs, and advanced courses that are primarily given to programs with a focus on IT and mathematics. The research is organized in four units, comprising eight research groups and is conducted in collaboration with industry and with academics at other universities in Sweden and internationally, dominantly within the framework of the research programs WASP and ELLIIT.

The department has approximately 75 employees, of which 25 are doctoral students. The head of the department (HoD) is the overall manager, chair of the department's board of governance, and is member of the faculty's council of HoDs. The HoD is appointed by the Dean of LTH, who is the immediate superior. The HoD must ensure that research and education are performed with high quality within the department's operations and promote the department's collaboration with the wider society. The HoD is the primary representive for the department inside and outside the university. The department is now looking for a HoD who will be employed as a university lecturer, but with the possibility of promotion to professor for those who meet the requirements according to LTH's guidelines for promotion.

At the department there is a management team, consisting of the HoD, assistant and deputy HoD, heads of units, directors of studies and the administrative manager. When the HoD is absent, the deputy HoD acts on the duties. It is advantageous if the head and deputy head complement each other's skills. The assistant HoD acts within a defined area or in a specific situation. The role as HoD today requires approx. 50% of a full-time position, but this may vary depending on how the HoD and the assistant HoD choose to distribute the duties between them.

In addition to the HoD assignment, the work duties include teaching at basic, advanced and postgraduate level, research including supervision of postgraduate students, and collaboration with the wider society. LTH offers career paths for research and teaching with promotion to docent and professor as well as the pedagogical competence degree Excellent Teaching Practitioner (ETP).
