You will be part of the centre's interdisciplinary research environment consisting of at least 3 other postdocs together with doctoral students, and senior researchers from the School of Economics and the Faculty of Engineering. Subject description
The subject of transformative innovation aims to understand, explain and improve businesses and operations with a focus on the development and adaptation of new and existing solutions (e.g. systems, goods and/or services) as well as new or improved processes (e.g. technical, organizational and business), to create value for individuals, groups, companies, supply chains and society. The research addresses both human, organizational, process and technical aspects such as user-centred design, technology and business development, development methodology, integration and collaboration, industrialization and sustainable development.

Project description
In order to meet climate, biodiversity and other sustainability goals, there must be rapid development and change within the business world over the next 5-10 years, and there must be a policy that promotes this. This means changes in consumption and production, increased resource efficiency and circularity, as well as new industry connections, forms of cooperation, value chains and business models. Within SSCEN, we build knowledge to deal with these challenges.

A key to the transition is digitization and the use of various digital tools and artificial intelligence. Based on reliable data from companies/organizations, evaluations can be carried out, new algorithms developed and applications and solutions for sustainable business operations developed. However, this development is still in its infancy and significant research is needed in applying digital technology and evaluating its actual value to participating companies, supply chains and society at large.

For this position, we are looking for a postdoctoral fellow who can develop, apply and evaluate digital tools (such as artificial intelligence, internet of things, cloud computing) with the aim of speeding up the transition of business to sustainable development. Areas of application relate to sustainable and circular business arrangements based on both a producer and consumer perspective and include close collaboration with participating actors. The focus is thus not on the digital technology itself, but on its application, usefulness and wider effects.

You, together with the other postdocs within SSCEN, will contribute with complementary competencies related to strategy, sustainable and circular supply chains, digitization, regional and industrial policy development, entrepreneurship and financing/accounting. Close collaboration will also take place with the centre's doctoral students and senior researchers.

Work duties
The tasks as a postdoctoral researcher mainly include conducting research. Actively seeking external funding in collaboration with other SSCEN employees is also part of the duties. Teaching may also be included, but no more than 20% of the working time. Within the framework of the employment, the opportunity is given for three weeks of university pedagogical training. The purpose of the employment is to develop one's independence as a researcher and to create conditions for further qualifications.

The duties include, for example, to:

  • Research in the subject area
  • empirical studies within the SSCEN network
  • development, application and evaluation of digital tools for sustainable business development
  • co-creation of theoretical and analytical frameworks
  • drafting and publish research papers in collaboration.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
  • Work with applying for external research funding,
  • Teaching at basic level, advanced level and postgraduate level,
  • Cooperation with business and society,
  • Administration linked to the tasks above.

Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. The certificate proving the qualification requirement is met, must be received before the employment decision is made. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English
  • Very good knowledge in the application of digital tool
  • Good cooperation skills, drive and independence

Assessment criteria
This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research
  • Teaching skills

Other qualifications:

  • Documented knowledge and experience in applying digitization
