The position is based at the Division of History of Ideas and Sciences, which is a part of the Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences. The division offers first-cycle study programmes and courses up to a Bachelor’s degree, second-cycle study programmes and courses as part of the Master’s degree in Historical Studies (in collaboration with the Department of History), and a doctoral programme. The division is part of the National Graduate School of Historical Studies, which is a collaboration between five Swedish universities for doctoral studies specialising in historical subjects.
The history of ideas and sciences at Lund has a relatively broad research profile. There is an established tradition of research in the history of philosophy at the department, and a more recent emphasis on conceptual history. A further focus is on periods further back in history, mainly connected to the broader field of early modern studies. Several researchers are additionally interested in the history of medicine and in the history of science and technology linked to the interdisciplinary field “Science and Technology Studies (STS)”.
The successful candidate is expected to actively participate in all the activities of the division and department.
The main tasks include planning and conducting teaching in the history of ideas and sciences in Swedish and English. Teaching comprises lectures and seminars as well as supervision on all levels. Course coordination, course administration and development of teaching and learning are also included in the teaching responsibilities. Teaching might also be called for in other closely related subject areas within the department.
In addition to teaching, the position includes research and research-related activities (at least 20% of full-time hours) and active participation in the subject’s research environment.
Management assignments, such as departmental responsibilities, may be a future possibility for the right candidate.
In the assessment, equal consideration is given to teaching expertise and research expertise. Personal abilities significant for performing the duties well will also be considered.
