Description of the workplace
The research group Clinical Microbiology conducts research in the field of microbiology. For several years, the research has been at the forefront of vaccine development. The group is led by Professor Kristian Riesbeck and consists of research and technical personnel. Work duties
The successful candidate will work on different aspects of microbiology with emphasis on interactions with the innate and adaptive immune system. Importantly, we address all 'housekeeping' matters. This implies that every team member is expected to contribute to common tasks, rather than solely focusing on their individual projects.

Eligibility
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. This eligibility requirement needs to be met no later than the time when the employment decision is made, and evidence that this requirement is met needs to have been sent in by this time at the latest. Candidates should have completed their PhD degree no more than three (3) years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

Basis for assessment      
At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is mainly room for merit in research, but also for certain higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks.

For the employment as a postdoctoral research, scientific ability and qualifications will primarily be taken into account.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • A PhD (within the last 3 years ) in nanoparticle research for targeted delivery of proteins or mRNA, or related disciplines.
  • Experience and practical knowledge of nanoparticle design, formulation and characterisation, loading efficiency, and, finally, nanoparticle cell internalisation.
  • Extensive experience in mammalian cell culture, transfection of eukryotic cells and cell-based assays including viability measurements and apoptosis assays.
  • Experience in protein expression/purification and protein characterisation including quantitative western (immuno) blotting, ELISA assays, qPCR, and proximity ligation assays.
  • Experience in fluorescence and confocal microscopy as well as flow cytometry.
  • Finally, the candidate must have a licence and experience to work with animals, preferentially mice, and ex vivo studies, IVIS imaging including injections to rodents and organ harvesting.

Meritorious for the position are:

  • Knowledge in GraphPad prism and electronic lab notebook Labguru.
  • Understanding basic bioinformatics.
  • Knowledge how to grow bacterial cells.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time employment limited to 2 years, with a possible extension for up to one additional year. Preliminary start date April 1, 2024 or according to agreement. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral researcher”) between SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated February 1, 2022.
