About the workplace

The Centre for Mathematical Sciences consists of about 150 teachers, researchers and doctoral students. Staff at the department provides graduate training and research activities within many different areas of mathematics. You will belong to the Division of Computer Vision and Machine Learning.

 

Work Duties

The purpose of this employment is, for a limited period of time, provide the Division for Computer Vision and Machine Learning at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences with competence within machine learning and diagnostics of breast cancer, relevant to ongoing research.

The position includes working with the project “Breast Cancer Diagnostics in Low-Resource Settings Using Point-of-Care Ultrasound and Deep Learning”, financed by eSSENCE. Teaching at basic and advanced level in machine learning may be included.

The research includes supporting ongoing development of a model based on machine learning for diagnosis of breast cancer using ultrasound images. In particular, support with collecting images in a clinical environment, evaluation of the model in a clinical context, as well as further development of the machine learning model with focus on uncertainty quantification. 

 

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering science or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience of machine learning and deep learning
  • very good oral and written proficiency in English

Additional requirements:

  • Experience of teaching at university level
  • Experience of working in a clinical environment
  • Some experience of research


Great emphasis will be on personal suitability. Consideration will be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, as well as how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department.

Terms of employment

Fixed-term employment. Maximum six months during spring/summer 2024. Preferred start date: 2024-03-15 or according to agreement.
