Subject description

The subject encompasses theoretical and practical content, and it includes education and flight training in all categories of operations with uncrewed aerial systems at the Authorized Drone School (ADS) of Lund University School of Aviation, part of the Department of Aviation and Aeronautical Sciences.

Work duties

  • Teaching in the first and second cycles of studies.
  • Practical flight training for uncrewed aerial systems, in simulated and real environments.
  • Theoretical knowledge instructions in various aeronautical subjects.
  • Planning and execution of operations with uncrewed aerial systems.
  • Applications and upholding of permits for uncrewed flight operations, as well as training.
  • Establishment and updates of manuals.
  • Ensuring compliance with European and national regulations.
     

Work duties could also include: 

  • Collaboration with industry, civil society, and its authorities.
  • Administration related to the above tasks.

Teaching mainly occurs in classrooms and through distance solutions, as well as during flight exercises in simulators and real environments. Additionally, the employment includes participation in organizational change and development of activities.

Qualification requirements 

  • Appointment as a lecturer requires that the applicant has: 
  • Completed a second-cycle degree or acquired corresponding knowledge and has other skills of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means.

Additional requirements:

  • Professional experience related to flight operations
  • Drone license for subcategory A2
  •  Very good oral and written proficiency in Swedish and English.
  • Ability to engage and inspire students during education, create challenges, and provide support, all of which help achieve optimal study results.
  • Able to establish good relationships and communicate as needed, both with students and colleagues.

Assessment criteria

For appointments to lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • Good subject knowledge of relevance to the post and the duties it will involve.
  • Good teaching ability including a good ability to develop and pursue teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
  • Very good professional experience or other experience of relevance to the post.

Other assessment criteria:

  • Worked as a manager or in a leading position in an aviation organization.
  • Competency certificate for remote pilot in the specific category.
  • Pilot certificate.
     

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
