Description of the workplace

The position is located at the railway operations research group at the division of Transport and Roads, at the department of Technology and Society, at the Faculty of Engineering. We study railway operations and systems, with a specific focus on improving their punctuality and capacity. The group currently consists of one associate professor, two postdocs, and four doctoral students, all located in the civil engineering building in Lund. We strive for a positive work environment, with a high level of communication and supervision, joint seminars, and frequent engagement with industry. We coordinate a national center of excellence in capacity and punctuality, participate in EU-Rail, and a wide range of nationally funded research projects. Work duties

You will assist in some research projects related to railway delays, punctuality, and maintenance. You will also help coordinate a major international research proposal and assist with the seeking of other external funding. The position entails frequent travel, both domestic and international, but otherwise assumes a high degree of physical presence at the office. 

Description of the work duties:

  • to support/assist the research group, conduct research within the subject railway traffic, especially capacity and punctuality.
  • teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies.
  • supervision of degree projects. 
  • assist in seeking external research funding.
  • collaboration with industry and wider society.
  • administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualifications

Appointment to a position as a researcher requires that the applicant has a PhD.

Required qualifications:

  • a PhD or equivalent research qualification within railway traffic or railway transport.
  • very good oral and written proficiency in English.  
  • knowledge of the railway sector and operations. 
  • experience of working with and conducting research on train delays.   
  • a high level of personal independence. 
  • a high ability to collaborate with others.

We consider it an additional qualification if you have:

  • Experience of collaborating with stakeholders in the railway industry.
  • Experience of working with the European railway industry.
  • Experience with applying for external research funding.

Further information

The position is a fixed term position for 10 months at 100 per cent of full time. Start no later than 16 September 2024.
