Description of the workplace
At Clinical Sciences Helsingborg, research is conducted in precison medicine with a focus on cardiometabolic diseases. The activity takes place within the Department of Clincial Medicine and is located at Helsingborg Hospital campus in Helsingborg.

Duties and areas of responsibility
The successful candidate will work closely with Prof. Franks to plan, execute, and disseminate research related to precision medicine, obesity and other cardiometabolic diseases. This work will include drafting and submitting documentation related to the research projects, undertaking statistical analyses, and organizing meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Providing support with new funding applications is requirement of the role. Much of the work will be undertaken with international partners from around the world, including Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. 

 The main project is within the context of IMI SOPHIA, a public private partnership between several major pharmacuetical companies and the European Commisson. The IMI SOPHIA initiative is now in its final year and the work undertaken will focus on finalising, reporting and disseminating research results, and developing a plan for the extension research related to the IMI SOPHIA project. The research project focuses on the subclassification of obesity phenotypes in order to optimise precision prediction models that may help improve diagnosis and treatment of obesity-related disorders. The research involves machine learning analysis of high-dimensionality human datasets.

Other key aspects of the employment will involve assisting with grant applications and planning research initiatives (including collaborator meetings).

Qualifications
Essential characteristics:

  • Master's degree or the equivalent of more than 240 credits in biomedicine or related fields.
  • Relevant background knowledge in precision medicine, data analysis (including machine learning), and epidemiology.
  • A demonstrable understanding of clinical translation, particularly in low-resource settings (e.g., medical doctor with experience of medical practice in low-resource settings).
  • Clear evidence of training and research productivity in areas related to precision medicine.
  • Competency in data analysis (including coding in R and/or Python), with a clear understanding in machine learning methods, referencing software (e.g. Endnote), and written and oral communication in English.
  • Emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The tasks require you to be thorough, well-organized and independent

 Prefered characteristics:

  • Experience working with industry partners.
  • Training in global health and real-world data analysis and interpretation.
  • Working knowledge of clinical practice in regions where work is planned.
  • Fluency in French, Portuguese and/or Spanish.
