Description of the workplace

You will work within the Traffic Safety and Behaviour research group. The group performs research on a variety of subjects related to traffic safety, including policy development, evaluation of safety measures, vulnerable road users and automated vehicles. The group uses innovative methods for traffic data collection, such as video analysis, surrogate measures of safety and traffic simulation studies. The group is involved in various national and international activities related to research and education in the traffic safety domain.

Our research group currently has nine employees, including senior lecturers, postdocs, researchers, technical and administrative staff, and PhD students.

Work duties

You will mainly be working in the research project SUperSAFE and a project about speed reducing measures in the countryside. In these projects you will be using the driving simulator in our VR hub.

Description of the work duties:

  • to design and conduct experiments in a driving simulator.
  • analysis of trajectory data and their relation to road design and behaviour of other road users. 
  • identify and analyse risk interactions in traffic by using existing conflict theory.
  • communicate research results through reports and articles.
  • teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies.
  • possibility to take teaching training.
  • supervision of degree projects. 
  • assist in seeking external research funding.
  • collaboration with industry and wider society.
  • administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualifications

Appointment to a position as a researcher requires that the applicant has a PhD.


Required qualifications:

  • a PhD degree in traffic safety.  
  • very good oral and written proficiency in English.  
  • very good oral and written proficiency in Swedish.  
  • experience of using qualitative and quantitative analytical methods to model the behaviour of road users.
  • knowledge of theories on risk behaviour in traffic and how these can be measured using trajectory data, meaning how vehicles and people move in traffic.
  • ability to collaborate and independence are personal qualities that we require.

Additional requirements: 

  • previous experience of teaching at the university level.
  • experience of research collaboration in multi-disciplinary and international contexts.
  • experience of programming in Python or Matlab.
  • experience of Matlab Roadrunner, the Open DRIVE format and Vi-grade VI-Worldsim, since these tools are used when working with the driving simulator.
  • experience of video analysis to analyze traffic behaviour using trajectory data.

The position is a fixed term position for 8 months at 100 per cent of full time, starting by agreement as soon as possible.
