The position is located at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science (INES). INES conducts research and teaching in the field of environment and climate, not least regarding how climate and environmental change affect the function and composition of the Earth's ecosystems. INES combines data collection in the field and from remote sensing systems with empirical studies, analysis of geospatial data, theoretical studies and modelling to understand processes and interactions between different parts of the Earth system and how humans affect it.
This employment is today placed at the department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science (INES). We are looking for a Lecturer in Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science with a specialisation in Geographic Information Science (GIS). Within the department, Geographic Information Science is today very broad and focused on applications of geospatial methods in several subject areas, in addition to natural sciences, social sciences, technology and medicine. INES offers a wide range of courses in the field of GIS, including two master's programmes entirely devoted to GIS and remote sensing. Job description
The tasks consist largely of teaching on campus and remote learning online. The teaching mainly encompasses basic courses and to some extent advanced courses in geographic information science (GIS) and within the department's other course offerings, both within the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science. The tasks involve teaching basic technical training in GIS but also includes applications to subject areas such as civil engineering, geoscience and ecology. Keeping abreast of developments in the field is important, and the work therefore includes own competence development, but may also include a certain amount of own research.
Part of the position is administrative with tasks revolving around the department's undergraduate programmes.
Estimated scope of duties: teaching and study administration up to 85% and research and competence development 15%. The distribution depends on the suitability of the applicant and may change over time. The Lecturer is not expected to develop his/her own research to any great extent but may participate in and will keep abreast of the department's research and maintain relevant expertise. We see an opportunity for the person to work on outreach within existing projects. Teaching will be mainly at the undergraduate level but to some extent also at the postgraduate level, including supervision of bachelor theses. If the candidate has a PhD, supervision at master and doctoral level may be included.
We expect the employee to have an outreach role towards students and the public, and thus be able to act as a support to our information officer. Furthermore, the employee will interact with Swedish and international partners regarding teaching (e.g. participate in teacher networks, contact with Swedish employers, monitor investigations, etc.)
Eligible for appointment as lecturer are those who have:
The position requires at least five weeks’ training in teaching and learning in higher education or corresponding knowledge that has been obtained in some other way. An exception to this requirement may be made in special cases. Applicants who do not have training in teaching and learning in higher education are to undergo such training within two years of taking up the position.
Teaching staff at Lund University are required to be suitable for the position and to have the general ability to fulfil their work duties well.
