Description of the workplace
In the Perinatal and Cardiovascular Epidemiology (PACE) research group we work cross-disciplinary to improve our understanding of pregnancy complications, particularly preeclampsia, and cardiovascular disease. We also have a substantial methodological interest and expertise, which further adds variety to the research questions we pursue. The research group is led by Simon Timpka (Associate Professor in Clinical Epidemiology) and consists of >10 members, most of whom work part-time as clinicians. Our offices are located at the Clinical Research Center (CRC) in Malmö, next door to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Skåne University Hospital. We employ a full-time senior PhD statistician and many of our projects leverage large sets of registry-based and/or biomarker data. Our recent research output has resulted in publications in e.g. JAMA (Lawesson et al., 2023), Hypertension (Mattsson et al., 2024), and Journal of Internal Medicine (Enhörning et al., 2022).

Duties and responsibilities.

Duties and responsibilities
At Lund University employment as a postdoc should provide the opportunity for scientific and pedagogical merit. The main priority of the position lies on qualifications in research, but also for certain university pedagogical training. 

You are expected to start working with statistical analyses and scientific reporting resulting in publications on pregnancy complications (particularly preeclampsia) and subsequent cardiovascular disease. All projects will initially be conducted in close collaboration with the principal investigator and our statistician. Ideal candidates for this position seek to both further develop their skills as a researcher and wish to work in a research group where their scientific abilities as well as personal qualities are valued. Qualifications
The employment requires:

  •  A doctoral degree in a relevant area such as epidemiology or clinical medicine (the doctoral degree needs to have been completed before employment starts).  
  • A genuine interest to understand the etiology of diseases and complications relevant to women’s health and pregnancy.
  • Great intellectual capacity and social ability.
  • Substantial motivation to further develop one’s scientific abilities and skills.
  • Documented experience in independently handling and analyzing large datasets in relevant areas such as women’s health or cardiovascular epidemiology.
  • Solid ability to conduct analyses in relevant statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata, or R).
  • Ability to plan, initiate, and conduct research within the areas of interest to the research group
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Primarily, the applicant in question should have completed a PhD degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
  • Experience in statistical analyzes on large datasets with genetic data.
  • Experience in writing and preparing application for ethical approval.
  • Experience in supervising students and/or junior colleagues.
  • Substantial subject expertise in preeclampsia, atherosclerosis, and/or other relevant field.

The assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merits and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area

The employment is limited to two years and is full-time. Preliminary start date is 2025-09-01 or as agreed. The employment is time-limited according to the agreement, "Agreement on temporary
employment as a postdoc", between the labor parties (Arbetsgivarverket, OFR:s, Saco-S och SEKO)
daterat 2022-02-01.
