Subject description

The Department of Service Studies focuses on education and research related to customer-oriented service organizations. Service studies address current societal challenges, critically examine existing perspectives, and contribute new insights while identifying sustainable pathways for the service sector.

Duties and responsibilities

The Department of Service Studies is a dynamic department with a large number of students and a wide range of research projects. To further strengthen our teaching and research profile, we are now looking for a senior lecturer who will contribute to our teaching and research with a focus on retail and consumption.

The position includes:

  • teaching on different levels within our programs in Service Management, especially in specialization-specific courses in retail and consumption; teaching that concerns, for example, marketing and methods is also included. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, examination, thesis supervision, etc.
  • develop the department's interdisciplinary research and contribute to the research group in consumption, marketing and retail,
  • support the research group in its work to actively seek external research funding and contribute to publications of international quality.

Qualification requirements

To be eligible for employment as a senior lecturer, the applicant must have completed a doctoral degree in service studies or a field relevant to the subject in the social sciences, such as business administration, sociology and human geography, or have achieved equivalent scientific competence. Applicants must have demonstrated teaching expertise and have completed five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

Additional requirements

We welcome high-quality applications from candidates with a clear social science focus, and we would like the applicant to have a research focus that complements and strengthens the department's existing profile areas in teaching and research.

It is required that the scientific competence, teaching expertise and professional expertise are relevant to the subject content of the position and the duties included in the employment.

The language of instruction is both Swedish and English.

The following qualifications are meritorious:

  • a strong interest in and experience in teaching in retail and consumption,
  • interest in contributing to teaching at the Department of Service Studies and working with students,
  • good interpersonal skills and willingness to work together in teaching teams,
  • documented ability to work both independently and as part of a research environment,
  • documented research experience in retail and consumption,
  • previous experience of publishing in international journals,
  • experience of applying for and also receiving external research funding and
  • experience of speaking and writing in a Scandinavian language.

Assessment criteria

<!--StartFragment -->When hiring a senior lecturer, equal weight is given to scientific and pedagogical competence.

In assessing teaching expertise, special emphasis will be placed on a well-documented pedagogical practice, which expresses a systematically reflected pedagogical experience. Particular emphasis is placed on skills in teaching and pedagogical development work that focuses on the students' learning. In the assessment of teaching expertise, pedagogical quality will primarily be taken into account. Importance is also attached to the scope of teaching as well as the variety, diversity and development of different pedagogical experiences.

In assessing research expertise, particular weight will be attached to recent years' research merits and planned research in the areas listed above, as well as the ability to independently plan, initiate and conduct research. Documented experience of participating in research applications and being able to demonstrate good results of the ability to obtain external research funding is a merit. Publication in international reputable journals is a merit. In the assessment of research expertise, scientific quality must be taken into account in the first instance. Importance is also attached to the scope of the research, primarily with regard to depth and breadth.

Importance is given to the documented experience of teaching and research from an interdisciplinary perspective, and of the development thereof.

Non-Scandinavian-speaking applicants are expected to acquire a knowledge of Swedish at the level required to fulfil ordinary work duties within education and administration within the first two years of employment. There are opportunities for Swedish language training within Lund University.

Terms of employment

The employment is a permanent position starting on 1 January 2026 or as agreed. The position is 100 % of full-time.
