Assistant Researcher in Bioinformatics with a Focus on Breast Cancer

Description of the Workplace
The announced position as an Assistant Researcher is within a multidisciplinary cancer research group consisting of four senior researchers, a biomedical analyst, and several doctoral students. The group collaborates with clinical researchers, PhD students, and Master's students. The workplace is located at Medicon Village in Lund, a multidisciplinary environment with several research groups in cancer research from both the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, you will work both independently and under supervision to lead a sub-project within a larger research initiative aimed at predicting lymph node status based on extensive clinical databases. In addition, the assignment includes working with a subproject to analyse proteomics for prognostication and monitoring in a metastatic breast cancer project. The projects combines clinical data with biological information, including multiplex staining, protein and gene expression analyses.

The work includes developing and executing analysis plans, as well as performing biostatistical and bioinformatic analyses. You will be responsible for documenting and reporting the results, and contributing to manuscript writing for scientific publication. The role also includes work with the development and automation of sample preparation for mass spectrometry-based proteomics analyses.

Qualifications
Required qualifications:

• A completed doctoral degree (PhD) from an engineering faculty or equivalent.
• Documented experience in database work related to breast cancer, including compilation of data from multiple sources (clinical data, gene and protein expression, and follow-up data) and analysis thereof.
• Documented ability to independently program and perform analyses, for example using the software R.
• Strong subject knowledge in tumor biology relevant to breast cancer, as evidenced by scientific publications.
• Documented experience in sample preparation for mass spectrometry-based proteomics in breast cancer samples.
• Documented experience of bioinformatics and biostatistic analyses within breast cancer research.
• Proficiency in written and spoken scientific/academic English, documented for example through participation in international conferences and publications.
• Good knowledge of the studies underlying the projects you will be involved in, through previous active participation in them.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Additional qualifications (considered an asset):

• Documented advanced skills in R programming.
• Documented skills in Python programming.

Other information
This is a permanent full-time position with a six-month probationary period. The desired start date is June 1, 2025, or as agreed.
